Follow your bliss
Follow your bliss. This simple phrase is meant to incite a spirit of wonderment and pure joy. Although somewhat cliche’, no truer words have ever been spoken in my humble opinion. Any blissful destination is personal and varies in meaning for all who seek it. Some people are pushed into this path of self discovery by external means. Dead end jobs, sticky financial situations and other people’s expectations may be a driving factor.
The photo attached is a picture of my dog enjoying the cool dry breeze somewhere in New Mexico. Sometimes I joke that I wish to be as “unbothered” about anything as my dog is about EVERYTHING. From a pragmatic standpoint, it isn’t really possible to start this quest until you are able to establish the things that ensure your basic security (food, water, shelter, etc.). Think Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Unfortunately some people may spend there entire existence on this earth trying to navigate the bottom of this pyramid. The goal at the top being self actualization. My heart often breaks for those of us who exist in this struggle. This has become one of the motivations to affect change where I am afforded the opportunity to do so.
While external factors may be enough motivation for some, I like to always turn my focus within. I pose a few questions for you to ponder. Have you found the thing that makes your blood boil? Are you intentional in your actions and deeds? What do you find when you focus on what is pulling you from the inside? Are you really invested in the things that push you from the outside? I find that on a macro level I really want to leave the world a better place than the one that has been created for me. After all isn’t that the purpose of humanity? On a small very selfish level I want to spend the rest of my days retired in the Bahamas soaking in the sun. In my perfect world these two things can coexist harmoniously. I do not have the platform or notoriety of some, but even the smallest vessel is able to carry water. In the meantime I stay focused on my short term goals and 50 meter targets because I believe whole heartedly that being dedicated will lead to my desired outcomes. This gives me joy in spite of my current surroundings. I find pleasure in the smallest victories.
I encourage you to take some time for your self each day to reflect on some of these questions. Sit in your car, lay in your closet or relax in the bath. Wherever you are able to be alone and have some true uninterrupted time for self reflection. Sometimes just taking a break from the matrix is enough to find the bliss that is calling you.
Peace, Love and Blessings
